From John, yesterday, while we were having a semi-argument (more of a debate, really). I love the man to bits, but he’s an engineer — his thinking is very linear. Black or white, one polarity or the other, nothing in between. I told him as much, which of course didn’t sit well. But after a while, we agreed to disagree, somewhat. (What were we debating? The McCarthy era, with the HUAC blacklists. Don’t ask why.)
“Don’t think of this as being black or white,” he said as we hugged. “Think of it as more like 50 shades of I’m right and you’re wrong.”
No jury would convict me. :-Þ

Having worked closely with engineers for over 32 years I feel your pain. However I DO love his retort. Especially pithy given your antipathy for the shoddy novels of a similar name.

Somewhat related to 50 shades was a recent comment my BFF made while using online dating sites. A few standouts in a BAD way prompted her to say,
“50 Shades of NO WAY!” LOL!

Erica, to many people especially Hollywood stars, got hurt and blacklisted in the McCarthy era, because of this Republican senator. And these stars were innocent, for they believed in free speech, and thoughts. Yes, it was a dark period in U.S.A. history.
