Erica Scott: Life, Love and Spanking

Ruminations, opinionated observations, darkly humorous blathering and the occasional rant from an outspoken spanko and unapologetic attention wh–, um, hog.

And so it goes

Hello, everyone. Sorry for the absence.

After much thought, going back and forth, changing my mind and then back again, I have decided it’s time to bring this blog to an end.

I have been in the spanking scene for twenty-one years this month, and online for nineteen. I have watched many changes in what became known as social media. In the early days for spanking chat and exploration, there were what was known as newsgroups, and various chat rooms. Often the latter devolved into a bunch of silly cyber spanking, but one could find intelligent conversation if one looked carefully. Then, around 2000, give or take a year, those gave way to chat forums, such as those on MSN and Yahoo, the old Shadow Lane chat board, etc. People posted and chatted and shared and connected. I co-managed a successful forum for a few years and had a blast.

When the forums began to run their course, they were overtaken by a new phenomenon: the spanking blog. Soon, everyone and their second cousin twice removed was blogging. I joined this bandwagon in 2005, on what used to be the hopping place (!): MySpace. My blog there straggled along for a while, trying to find its audience, but there was so much competition. But then two things happened. One, I was listed by our blog queen, Bonnie, who made a point of spotlighting new blogs in her “In With the New” column. Things really picked up for me after that, but I still had a second holy grail to achieve. The buzz in the blogosphere was about a gentleman who went by the name of Chross, who had a weekly list of what he considered the most notable blog posts. If one was lucky enough to be “Chrossed,” they would be treated to a highly gratifying spike in blog hits. But how did one get on Chross’s radar, I wondered? I finally grew so frustrated that I wrote a post called “Who Do I Have to @#$% to Get on Chross’s List?” Apparently, that got his attention. 🙂

After that, wow. Views, comments, etc. skyrocketed. Until MySpace died, and I took the plunge and started a new blog on Blogger in 2010. I flourished there for years, getting Chrossed often, sharing adventures and party stories and photos and scenes and video shoots, as well as bits and pieces of my personal life. When Blogger threatened to censor or shut down all their “adult” blogs, I migrated to WordPress. Turns out it wasn’t necessary, since Blogger backed off, but I don’t regret it.

However, things changed yet again. Slowly but surely, the spanking blog was overtaken by the Tumblr blogs: pictures. Lots and lots and lots of pictures. The lengthy blog entry morphed into quickie sound bites, gifs and jpegs. Comments became likes and reposts. The spanking models, who all used to blog, now opened Tumblr accounts. Twitter came to be, and now, instead of writing party and shoot reports, people tweeted the action as it was happening. There were some exceptions who maintained their popularity (Hermione and Ronnie come to mind, as well as some of the DD/Hoh blogs and some author blogs) but it seemed that overall, the traditional written spanking blog had gone the way of the VCR and the variety show.

Even so, I figured as long as I had stories to tell, experiences to share, connections to make, I’d have an audience. For quite a while, my views remained high thanks to being Chrossed often. But now, it seems even our beloved Chross has given up the ghost. And the annual Spanking Blogg Awards, put together by John Osborne of Triple A, finally eliminated the Best Creative Blogger category last year because it wasn’t getting any nominations. I was lucky enough to win second place in 2015, that award’s final year.

myaward

After many years and thousand of words, kids, I’m fresh out of things to say. On topic, anyway. I don’t want to hash and rehash the same discussions; there’s FetLife for that. Scene-wise, things have changed for me. I no longer have a top, and I haven’t played since 50 Freaks in February. I go to two parties a year. I do not shoot anymore, and even if someone were to offer it up, I’m not sure I would do it. I don’t enjoy looking at myself on film anymore — those HD cameras are not kind! And as for my personal life, I have been dealing with a great deal of grief and challenges over the past few months, including an ongoing situation with John that is stressful and scary. But you know, I don’t want to go into that on here anymore either. I have ranted, raved, wept, opened up and laid myself bare (physically and emotionally) in these posts over the years. I think it’s time for that to end. Everyone has problems; they don’t want to hear mine. And if I can’t post on-topic fun stuff, there’s really no point in continuing.

Also, I made the mistake, in a time of weakness, of writing political posts on here. Please. Can we all agree that there’s enough of that shit out there everywhere you look? I mean, really — using a spanking blog, of all things, to push one’s political agenda is arrogant, self-serving and a big waste of time, don’t you think? So I do apologize for that bit of foolishness.

I am not taking this blog down. I want to preserve it, because I’m proud of it. I would like people to be able to refer back to it, reread posts they liked, enjoy the pictures, etc. My life, my heart and my soul are in these pages. So it will remain intact, even though I won’t be adding to it any longer. I will always be grateful for my readers, all the comments, all the feedback. Without you guys, we writers might as well be talking to ourselves. And hey, I even appreciate those hapless dumbasses who gave me so much wonderful CHoS fodder. One more for the road? Sure, why not…

Hi I would like to spanking you hardly but it is turning me on and in the end which will be not short time I would like to have sex or atleast blowjob becouse I don’t want go away horny and I don’t want jerkoffing if you are okay with that or you have some other way to make e come and relax after when I spanking you hard and long tell me

(sigh) Some things never change, I guess. I suggest you come the way you always do — in your mama’s basement in front of your sticky keyboard. And for the last time, fuck off.

I don’t get as much of this nonsense nowadays, but I still see it. Recently, Alex got a critique on her Tumblr that she is neglecting to post pictures of her anus. She’s nicer than I am: I would have replied that if this person wants to see an asshole, they should look in a mirror.

Some of you have my antiquated (but still functional) AOL address. My gmail address is at the end of the About Me section here. I’m still out there, on Facebook, Twitter and FetLife. I have always welcomed polite and civil correspondence (and no, you do not have to agree with me, just don’t be a dick about it), and that will not change.

So what should be my last gasp? Perhaps I’ll just say screw it and reveal all… my real name, my family, the TV shows they worked on…

wait for it…

ready?

bazingasheldon-171623

Come on, you didn’t really think I’d tell all that, did ya? Besides, I wanted to go out on a Big Bang. 😛

And so this hard-edged, tender-hearted, snarky spanko bids you farewell, in this venue at least. Have a great life, y’all. ♥ ♥ ♥  Thank you for reading.

Oh my, I’m coming over all emotional! I haven’t ‘known’ you for long, Erica, but I’ve enjoyed reading your blog and making the odd cheeky comment, to which you’ve always had the grace to reply. In another life I would love to have know you for real, but hey, that’s the internet for you. Anyways, I wish you every happiness in your life and don’t stop playing completely – it’s too much fun! Erica, I suppose all good things have to come to an end at sometime. I never had enough spanking action and was not a good enough writer ever to think of starting a blog so I enjoyed reading yours and a few other such as Dr Leia Ann Woods.

This posting has reminded me of the early days of being on the internet and the wonderful feelings of discovery when you found a new forum or chat room, it seemed so much more adventurous in those days. Chross became a ‘Must go to’ to pick up news and details of new sites and blogs. At one time there were almost too many to keep up with.

You were always entertaining and your party reports were gratefully received here in the U.K. I did at one time harbour hopes that I might get to one of these parties and meet you and some of the other American spankers / spankees but having landed up in a wheelchair I doubt that will now be possible.

I do hope that John makes a good recovery and that you no longer have to worry about his health and can enjoy life together. As you well know constant worry about a loved one can have quite a debilitating effect on your own well being so congratulate yourself for being strong and not letting it grind you down.

As to your lack of a Top to play with I’m surprised you have not been swamped with offers, properly written by intelligent volunteers. I’ve always enjoyed your CHoS fodder and your put downs, maybe we’ll see a few on your Fetlife page?

So I hope this is ‘Au Revoir’ and not Good bye.

Once again All the Very Best to you and John.

    • Erica, such a well written post; while I did not read your blog
that often we have chatted a few times over the years. Growing up in Beverly Hills even though I’m a bit older than you, it was fun to remenise. I lived in Northridge as well. I’m still hopping to meet you one day, maybe this year at Shadow Lane.

I just want to wish you and John the best; I’m sorry for what you guys are going through with his health situation and his job. Please be patient, I know it’s easy for me to say that but experience has taught me that things generally work out for the best and I know they will work out for the both of you.

You’re a class act and while I don’t share your political views I appreciate the comments you made in this post.

We still are in the same group on facebook so I will be looking forward to your future comments. I go by a different name on FB and I will PM you there.

  4. All good things must come to an end I suppose, and your blog has certainly been one of those my dear Erica. I wish you all the very best in your future life, and may good fortune and health be visited upon you and John, you deserve it both of you.

And as for presenting a political view on a spanking blog like yours? Why not my dear lady? You’ve been letting us follow parts of what has been happening in parts of your private, professional, and emotional life, so what on earth should be wrong with letting a few political oppinions find their way to your blog? I’m pretty certain that most, if not all, of your readers and followers can easily forgive you for that, regardless of whether they share your views or not.

    P.S.
I know it won’t happen, but for the record: Should you ever come to Copenhagen in Denmark, do not hessitate to contact me. I’d be very happy to offer a drink to the lady that managed to move me with her words, and make me care about a stranger I’ve never met.

  7. Oh, didn’t know I was going to cry today, sis.

Guess I was about a year behind you online, I got it in 1999 and remember basically all of that. Southern California Spanked Wives Club, right? I was sad when we lost that too, but always followed you wherever you blogged, since way before I actually knew you. I’ve always enjoyed reading about your life and stories, and the CHoS, not just the spanking stuff.

On that note, I don’t think you need to apologize for sharing your views. This isn’t the Spanking Only blog, it’s Erica Scott, Life, Love & Spanking. It was/is a highly charged time, and was affecting you emotionally. You’ve always written openly about what was currently affecting you, and that’s probably why so many were able to relate to the eloquent way you expressed your human experience.

I agree, blogs seem to have had their day, but it still does feel like the end of an era. A lot has certainly changed in the spanking scene since we found it! Much for the better. As long as I can still see you on Twitter and Fet, or whatever’s next, it doesn’t feel so final. Please throw us the occasional CHoS entry and life update on Fetlife, maybe? Or Tumblr? I don’t really like Tumblr either, just seems to be the thing now, lol. These kids. 😉

Love you so much, the sentimental side of me feels a little sad, but the practical side can see that it’s just time. See you around! xoxo 💖

Dear Erica, in a world that has been reduced to 140 characters and an overload of images, it has been a pleasure to be able to read a blog where the language , wit and barbed humour takes centre stage. I will miss those cutting comments and the occasional social commentary. I am thankful that you have shared a small part of your life with us over the last few years.

My sincere hope is that you and John can ride out your health issues and that you can live in peace and happiness. Blessings.

  18. Sweetsong — that was one of the first things I learned as a blogger, from Bonnie herself: Always reply to commenters. They like (and deserve) to be acknowledged. Thank you.

Jade — take care, sweet girl.

David — I suppose I will continue the CHoS comments on Twitter or FetLife. But I’ll certainly miss posting them here. I’m glad you enjoyed what I wrote.

Puggybear — you’re very kind, and I hope you’re right. Oh, and thank you for giving a perfect demonstration of how to disagree with someone politically without being a dick about it. Many could learn from your classy example.

CS — well, damn, that made me cry. Thank you. As for your question about why I shouldn’t have posted about politics, three reasons: 1. it changed nothing; 2. it annoyed readers who didn’t come here for that; and 3. it put me on the radar of some “bad hombres,” as our Cheeto-in-Chief says, and I needed that like I need a scabrous rash.

MrJ — thank you for always reading and commenting.

Anonymous — I really don’t mind that some people chose to remain anonymous, if they were shy or reticent about revealing their identity. Some of the nicest posts were anonymous. Thank you.

Lily — oh, don’t cry, please! I cry nearly every damn day — it’s the new normal, it seems — and I’m so sick of it. I love you too! We go back a long way and I appreciate how you’ve always been there, been your caring and supportive self, despite the fact that you’ve gone through so much of your own pain and strife. It means a lot. Sending all the hugs.

Don — you’ve been another staunch supporter and reader, and I thank you for it.

Jay — I’m glad you found me too! Please feel free to email anytime. Thanks for being so kind.

Brian — thank you so much.

Mouse — ah, I’ll miss you too. You’re one of my favorite lurkers.

subhub — thank you; you’re very sweet. It’s lovely to hear that I’ll be missed. On my dark days, I need to remember that my words mattered.

    Mike — thank you, too.

Strict — “the rest” have taken over, I’m afraid. I was tired of swimming against the tide. But a very good run was had. Thank you.

Hermione — dear heart, I feel like I know you, even though we’ve never met. Thank you for your solid presence.

Pam — oh, honey, I’m sorry about your mother. Been there, as you know. It’s all-consuming. Please don’t worry… I’m still around. Just not here. Thanks for the years of support and friendship.

Ronnie — you remain a stalwart and entertaining presence in a realm where many have fallen away, and I appreciate you. Thank you.

The promotional side is still there and I do hope it stays as people gravitate to other media (free/pirated – GRRR! or otherwise) for their spanko gratifications.

I didn’t realize Chross had stopped, I blog approx once or twice a week instead of near daily in the past (that’s cos I’m so busy elsewhere, aren’t we all?)

    Erica,

I am sorry to lose your blog. You have been a unique voice and have undeniable talent. It has been a pleasure, and I’ll miss it.

I can’t say this is a surprise. You appear to have edged up to this for awhile.

However, you do seem to have been pushed over the edge by recent events in your life. I hope those things in your life improve, John’s issues, finding a top, renewing your joy in what has given you so much pleasure.

I don’t attribute this just to depression, your own emotional state. The problems seem real, and your reactions understandable. For that reason, I wish you well in getting past them, and think you will. You are tough and capable. Perhaps then you will choose to revisit the blog.

I do disagree with your opinion on blogging as an activity. I’ve seen those photo sites, and have probably seen every photo out there over and over again by now. What I don’t see is the creativity that you brought to your blog.

Originally, blogs were used as all purpose tools, the only choice. Now those who would mostly post photos have other options. Those who would offer the briefest statements have other options.

Blogging is left with what it does best, what the others cannot do. However, it has that, and that is important too. It is what you have done so well. It is what many of us enjoy, and would not find in those other things you say have displaced blogging.

I think it more accurate to say blogging has been purified of the other lesser uses of the medium. Highest and best use, we call it.

Thank you for all your efforts,

  36. Well, Erica, I’ve been trying to think for nearly two weeks what I wanted to say here. It kinda feels like when Johnny Carson quit the Tonight Show, or when Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore ended their first shows. But not when M.A.S.H. ended; I was more than ready for that to go away by then.

Thank Kazeuzus you’re still in e-mail and FaceBook range.

You’ve told the most entertaining stories here, and in the most entertaining way; the late comedian and story-teller Grady Nutt used to describe himself as a “contexter.” “You know,” he said, “when somebody says, ‘that would have been funny if you’d-a been there!’ Well, I try to make you feel like you had been there!”

And your gift is that you did the same. There has been a full range of things, hilarious and sexy, and hilariously sexy, as well as things profound and deeply moving. And there have been heartbreaking tragedies, too, and teh chance for us to all offer some supporting love.

And all of it showed the full depth of the wonderful woman that you are, all the snarkiness, all the wit, and all the compassion and love. Which, by the way, does include political commentary! You never should apologize for anything “off topic,” because, for the luvva Mike, it’s all part of who you are, and that’s the reason we’ve come here to read your adventures.

You’re the reason there’s a Wolfie Blog, Well, that, and I had some time to fill between day jobs, and had a need to show off. I haven’t done much lately, but it’s not all done yet.

So, thank you so very much, lovely Erica, for all the work here, for the entertainment, and, most especially, for the joy it is to know something of your heart and soul.

    • Wolfie — I so love you. You’ve been a source of great joy for many years. It’s been an honor to be the subject of your cartooning talent, your jokes and puns have made me laugh countless times, and you are a kind and loving soul. Thank you for everything!

    Hi, Erica

I’m sorry to see your blog go, but I do understand your reasons.

You were my first “online buddy” back in ’99, when I discovered the internet. While connected by a mutual interest in spanking, we used to talk about just about everything else: music, politics, gym equipment…

I also remember how excited you were after shooting your first Shadow Lane video. (I bought it, too, but I don’t still have it. Don’t have VHS anymore.)

I haven’t used this “name” in YEARS, but I’ll sign off with it (it was my old AOL “spanking profile” name, Elsps….)

    Ktllbpcj@aol.com

(…and I do know your real name, but will never tell it.)

    • Anonymous — wow, you go way back with me! Would you believe I still use that Elsps email address? I mean, I’ve had it forever, so I figured why bother switching. But at least I conceded to the 21st century and got a gmail address as well. Thank you so much for coming by. Feel free to say hello anytime you like.

Wow, I knew that Dave Wolfe was an amazing illustrator, but he also has the gift of writing with sincerity and clarity. As far as my feelings go, let me just say “ditto”
I am sad that you are giving up blogging but fully understand. Sometimes we need to move on and be content with our memories.
You are a beautiful, dazzling woman – – You are my hero !

  39. Hi Erica! I’m sorry for the very delayed comment, as I just came across this now.

I want to say that this is a major loss for the blogging community, as you are very talented, creative, and insightful. At the same time you are as real and honest as they come. I really can’t say enough great things about your work on here, and how much I will miss your new posts.

If you feel it is time for this chapter in your life to come to an end, then that should definitely be respected. I wish you a lot of luck and happiness where ever life takes you. And please don’t beat yourself up over the political stuff. It gave people more insight into who you are and what your opinions are, and I thank you for that, even if and when I didn’t necessarily agree.

So once again good luck, and I will still visit your great work often.

Gosh, it has been not quite four weeks, and yet half the world seems to have stopped by (along with the ever-talented, ever-lovely Wolfman) to tell you how simply wonderful it was to share, for a little while, your corner of this world. This was the only blog I ever dared write in, and only one of two in which I ever felt totally immersed while reading. Your friends are extraordinarily lucky to have you. I don’t do Facebook or anything else, and I know I dropped by once already to say arrividerci, but my goodness, I do miss your blog…also committed the cardinal sin of forgetting a possessive apostrophe in my previous comment; I bet you did that eye-rolling thing when you read it!

    • Anonymous — what a lovely comment. Thank you so much! Wish I knew who you are.

SH — thank you for the kind words. It’s a loss for me, too. I keep catching myself, wanting to come back and write things. But I think, given all the circumstances I’d mentioned, it was time.

VP — you’re so sweet. And no, I did not roll my eyes at you. When people are kind and polite and friendly to me, I overlook all that grammar stuff. It’s only when they’re rude, presumptuous, and behave like a-holes in general that I figure their spelling/grammatical gaffes are fair game. Thank you for always being kind.

Sorry to see you go, but all things good and bad, must come to an end. I enjoyed what small communications we had. I’ve had other people who’ve been important to me in TTWD universe and it’s always an unpleasant shock, but people have real lives (and loves) and need to tend to them. Wishing you a long, happy life. 😉
